Dear Pat Benatar: Job Hunting is a Battlefield!

Why the title? Because i felt like it :)   Hello my little minions! (or big minions; i dont discriminate! lol)  Today i will tell you alllll about my exciting, rush-filled day of filling out applications. You see, i am 17 and just finished my junior year, which means that next year i will be a senior, and senior year stuff costs a LOT of dough. Being that my parents arent fabulously wealthy like i someday hope to be, i decided to start taking matters into my own hands. Little did i know i may as well just be a professional job-application-filler-outer (it works!).

I was out getting groceries and things with my parental lobes (inside joke, courtesy of scott and psychology class), when i suddenly remembered one of my top summer resolutions: Get a job. So i scampered off to the Publix application center and typed all my information gleefully into their database. It took 20 minutes for the information portion and 30 minutes for the questionnaire. By the way, theres no seat! So after standing at this computer for almost an hour, trying to decide whether i should "Tell my supervisor about Mandy's irresponsible behavior" or "Offer to help Mandy teach Dwayne the safety procedures", i realized that this may be a little tougher than i thought.

Walmart was no better; before i could even BEGIN filling out the application it made me create a whole walmart account. Then it asked a bunch of bullcrap questions before i could start filling out any information! So infuriating! I actually had to stop filling it out halfway through (it had been more than an hour!) and finish it later online. When i got home, however, it was easier to fill out applications because the smaller the buisiness (IE: local craft store or retail teen clothing) the less you have to fill out and the more they save for the interview.

Times like these are what make me appreciate the little conveniances of modern living, though. Without the internet i wouldve had to personally go to all SIXTEEN places i applied for and fill out a resume for each! Furthermore, websites are becoming more and more unionized and efficient, because they all put the online applications in the SAME place on the home page (the very bottom of the screen; the "careers" button in small print), and they all make you click the SAME buttons to get to the easy-for-teen jobs (click "search jobs", type in your zip code or city, pick the store(s), then click "hourly wages" or "in store jobs"). Hopefully with all this hard work, i will get at least ONE interview, preferably from Walgreens, Walmart, Publix, Five Guys or the Starbuck's in Target.

Want to hear something phenomenal, though? As i was checking my email a few minutes ago for any replies from all these applications, (wishful thinking, i know, but it couldnt hurt) i had received 3 EXTRAORDINARY emails from people who read this blog! For one, i was shocked the other day when a few people simply clicked the "like" button on my blog link, but now i was getting ACTUAL feedback! If those people are reading this right now, they know who they are, but for those of you who arent them i will go into a little more detail and flatter them repeatedly for renewing my love for this humble hobby.

One was actually from "Jacob", a web designer who commented on the flow of my page and the spunk in my writing. Your comments were well thought out and oh-so-helpful, and i share many of your opinions on writing technique. Thanks for your thoughts, Jacob!   :)

The second was from another friendly web designer named Daphne. She gave me great feedback on my writing that i truly appreciate, as well as a personal invitation to HER new website! Im not sure if she wants this to be kept secret for now or not, because the site was by invitation only (lucky me!), but i WILL let you in on what the site is about. It's a networking site centered around fashion where people can post pics of different outfits and styles and allow other members to deem what's hot and what's not. I especially enjoyed this feature, because though i am not particularly big on fashion, EVERYONE loves to be a critic. The layout of the site was simple to maneuver, easy to figure out and explore, and very fun and innovative. Thank you, Daphne, and let me know when the site goes public so i can REALLY advertise for you! :)

This last message was quite blush-worthy, as it comes to me from a humble fan who simply loves my work. I am utterly flattered. Furthermore, this young man, "Andre", told me that i seemed interesting and fun to be around.. so he sort of asked me out. I know, so exciting! I wouldnt want to put his privacy at risk, but i will say that he's adorable, sweet, and interested in aviation and photography. I see nothing but endless possibilities with this guy, so wish me luck! And special thanks to you, Andre, cant wait to get you know you better  :)

All these emails made me wonder: Are there others who wish to comment on my site? Do they want to write me something but dont feel like opening a blogger account, much in the same way i dont have a youtube account? Well heres my solution! Within the next few days (probably today.. probably right after im done writing this), i will find some creative way to make my email address more prominent for all you lovely readers out there, whether it be a separate page or an altered logo pic (probably the latter). This way, all you brilliant fans can comment to your heart's content! Maybe if YOU have a crush on me, too, you can joust with Sir Andre for my love! ;)  lol  Until then , here's my personal email address if you just become to antsy to wait: fredthenoodle37@yahoo.com

Stay Productive!  ;)
